Day 16 - PCC IV (1/30)
As I sit here way too sweaty to be either on this couch or on this computer, I've gotta come clean - I don't think I've ever brought myself as close to passing out from a workout as I did today. Here's what had happened.
As yesterday's teaser indicated, somehow my boyf wound up at the Leesville Elementary School track at noon today attempting to run a mile under 6 minutes. Essentially this boy (who I do love dearly) has been claiming for the past year and a half or so that he can easily run a "sub-6 mile." During this same year and a half he also has not persay been working out other than playing softball. So finally a couple of his buddies had it with the untested claims. Wagers were made (only one of his pal's actually backed him for it) and at noon today, he was off. I don't need to get into it but let's just say while he was totes on track during the first lap (1.20 split) this went seriously and quickly dowwwwwnhill. Verdict's in and by sub-6 evidently he meant sub-9. Good enough for me! :)
Anyhoodles, this also marked my first official day back on the run training camp circuit. So since we were out at the track, I got my 25 minute run/walk interval training in. I need to re-emphasize here that I ha-hate running and am horrible at it and if I had enough time to train would probably have started back at Day 1 of the "Couch to 5K" plan. But since March 12, Triathlon Day, is not affording me all that much time, I jumped right in at week 4, figuring I'm an Insanity badass, so why the h not?
None of this was actually a problem - the run workout was solid enough, but I was definitely FEELING it when I was done. SO what do I do when I go home? Immediately go upstairs and holler at Shaun T. My reasoning was that I didn't feel like drawing out Sunday workout-fest any longer than I had to. But let's just say it got ugly REAL quick. And by the time we were in the last cardio sequence of jabs and jacks, my vision was PAST double. This head of mine was straight spinning.
SO what's the big takeaway? Intense workouts need to be separated by at least a few hours and definitely some high-protein eats. I am definitely feeling 100% more human now that a protein bar and some cottage cheese have been had. Duly noted, Shaun T, duly noted.
